A certified property manager is certification awarded by the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), which is an organization of real estate professionals dedicated to the highest standards of the profession. Founded in 1933, the IREM has set the standards for certified property managers.

How Do You Become a Certified Property Manager

There are certain criteria you must have in order to be a certified property manager. These include:

  • Be a licensed real estate agent or meet minimum education requirements as set by IREM
  • 3 years of real estate management experience
  • Must pass the CPM certification exam
  • Be a member of IREM
  • Pass an ethics course
  • 3 letters of recommendation

The Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) believes in the power of knowledge and in sharing that. Their mission is to help property managers in Fort Collins and elsewhere be the best they can be. They offer on-going educational classes and certifications to further their mission. Anyone can join the IREM with certain levels, so it’s not just for those designated at CPM or any other designation the IREM offers, such as Accredited Residential Manager (ARM), Accredited Commercial Manager (ACoM), and Accredited Management Organization (AMO).

Why is a Certified Property Manager Designation Important?

Becoming a CPM is extremely difficult to do. It shows clients that you are dedicated to your profession and that you have the knowledge to be extremely competent in the position. Furthermore, with a huge emphasis on ethics, you can rest assured when you work with a property manager who carries the CPM designation that you will be treated fairly in all respects and manners.

Holding the CPM designation is also a great way to advance your career. Recognized the world over as one of the top criteria for being the best at property management, being a CPM opens up more job opportunities and usually brings in more clients who seek out CPMs to manage their residential or commercial properties. Moreover, you will have a vast network being a member of IREM, which will open up more career advancement opportunities. Having the CPM can earn you more income as well.
